MONTICELLO – Monticello Police are continuing to investigate the theft of the gun and badge belonging to suspended Newburgh City Police Chief Douglas Solomon.

Solomon, who lives in Monticello, had the use of a Newburgh Police car to commute to and from work.

On March 1, his weapon and wallet containing his badge were stolen from the vehicle while in Monticello, said Monticello Police Chief Robert Mir.

Both were recovered, he said.

Mir said it is unclear if the car was unlocked or had a faulty lock.

No arrests have been made.

Solomon, who previously was Monticello police chief and later, Beacon City police chief, as well as mayor of Monticello, was suspended from the Newburgh Police Department last week.
