Assemblyman Schmitt activated to Army National Guard duty for COVID-19 mission

NEW WINDSOR – Assemblyman Colin Schmitt (R, New Windsor), a corporal in the Army National Guard, has been activated for the COVID-19 mission. Schmitt will deploy in support of the ongoing fight to combat coronavirus starting today, Saturday.

Schmitt’s office will continue to be fully operational remotely to provide service and assistance uninterrupted to all residents of the 99th Assembly District.

“As we continue to wage war against coronavirus I have been activated and will deploy in Orange County to support the Army National Guard COVID-19 mission,” he said. “In this trying time for all in our communities I will do my part as a member of the National Guard to combat this virus.”

Schmitt praised the men and women “who have been on the frontlines working to save lives and keep our communities healthy. They are heroes and I will work however long it is necessary to provide assistance to them in my military role.”

Schmitt is currently serving as a corporal in the 1569th Transportation Company, New York State Army National Guard. Schmitt has been a member of the Army National Guard for five years and has previously been activated in support of the Hurricane Irma and Maria Relief Mission.
