ALBANY – Governor Andrew Cuomo noted on his daily COVID-19 briefing, Thursday, that he cannot impose a state-version of the federal Defense Production act as the president can to order companies to manufacture an item in an emergency situation.

But, the governor did put out a call for apparel and other manufacturers in the state to make face masks and hospital gowns during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“If you have the capacity to make these products, we will purchase them and we will pay a premium and we will pay to convert or transition your manufacturing facility to a facility that can do this, but, we need it, like now,” he said.

The governor also said a total of 85,000 out-of-state healthcare professionals have volunteered to assist New York in its battle against the virus.
