Newburgh school board member victim of COVID-19

GOSHEN – A member of the Newburgh Enlarged City School District Board of Education has succumbed to COVID-19 related illness.

The family of Sue Prokosch announced her passing Monday, with a niece posting on Facebook that “May everyone be blessed with the unconditional love she provided all of us.”

The principal of West School, Ebony Clark, said Prokosch was “my mentor, and helped open our building.”

Prokosch, who had underlying health issues, was 71.

Earlier in her career, she was a teacher in the district for over 40 years. “She was a strong advocate for education in our community and a champion for underprivileged children and those with high needs,” School Board President Carole Mineo and Superintendent of Schools Roberto Padilla stated in a joint announcement.

“She made an amazing impact in this community and we ask that you keep her family and friends in your thoughts and prayers. During this tough time, we will remember the service that Sue gave to our community, while continuing to e resilient during this difficult time as that is what Sue would have wanted,” Mineo and Padilla said.
