Man saved after threatening to jump off bridge; other person jumps

MID-HUDSON – Police were able to convince a man to step to safety after he threatened to jump off the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge late Saturday morning.

Meanwhile, Saturday night, another person did jump from the Kingston-Rhinecliff Bridge, according to police and first responder reports.

The man on the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge, who was holding a knife, had stepped over the guard rail and was hanging on with one hand, police said.

He was eventually talked back and rescued by Newburgh Town and State Police.

Saturday night, first responders reported a person had jumped off the Kingston-Rhinecliff Bridge. Rescue boats and divers were deployed to the river where the person was recovered.
