WASHINGTON – The House of Representatives, Friday, passed Congress’ $2.2 trillion COVID-19 relief package that will provide direct financial assistance and expand unemployment benefits for families across the nation. Shortly thereafter, President Trump signed it into law.

Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney (D, NY-18) noted the bill also provides state and local governments, hospitals, and small businesses the resources they need during the pandemic.

“For millions of Americans who are struggling and worried about what tomorrow may bring this bill is a critical lifeline at a historic moment and I’m proud of the House for acting in this bipartisan fashion in a way that will address the needs of millions of Americans,” he said.

Also on Friday, President Trump invoked the federal Defense Production Act, and mandated that General Motors begin to manufacture ventilators, tens of thousands of which are expected to be needed in hospitals for patients who are critically ill from the virus that attacks the respiratory system.
