POUGHKEEPSIE – School districts and their teachers had little time to prepare for the sudden closure of schools due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Educators throughout Dutchess County sought resources for how to make the transition happen and Dutchess BOCES came to the rescue with 18 facilitated sessions for educators in job-alike, grade-alike and subject-alike roles to help at no cost to school districts.

Each hour-long session allows teachers and leaders to brainstorm, share resources and collaborate on ideas for continuing instruction while schools are closed.

More than 300 participants joined the first sessions Monday from 13 area school districts and Dutchess BOCES, BOCES Director of Educational Resources Jenny Schinella said.

Zoom web-conferencing was used to connect everyone.

“I was able to jump in and out of all the sessions and I was thrilled with what I saw,” Schinella said. “Feedback from participants has been very positive. They are so thankful BOCES established these communities to connect and re-engage professionals from around the county.”

Sessions are offered throughout the day with topics repeating Monday/Wednesday and Tuesday/Thursday. Sessions were coordinated with Ruairi Gribbon, director of the Mid-Hudson Partnership Center.

Content areas include middle/high school math and science, world languages, libraries, grades K-2, grades 3-5, secondary building administrators and technology sessions on Zoom and Google Classroom.
