MID-HUDSON/CATSKILLS – The number of people to test positive in the region for coronavirus is rising daily.

In Orange County, the numbers rose by more than 100 each day for two days. The count is now up to 539.

Sullivan County has confirmed 35 cases of COVID-19 as of March 24. That’s an increase of 10 over the day before.

“Assume community transmission is widespread, regardless of where you live,” Public Health Director Nancy McGraw said. “But you can greatly limit your risk by staying at home, regularly washing your hands with soap and water, and calling your healthcare provider or hospital if you have a fever, cough and/or shortness of breath.”

Sullivan County’s Public Health Services Call Center (845-292-5910) and Emergency Community Assistance Center (845-807-0925) continue to be staffed during weekdays, and voicemails left after hours will be answered as soon as possible.

Dutchess County is up to 101 confirmed cases and Putnam County now as 82 positive cases.
