Ulster Sheriff’s Office arrests man after he barricades himself for hours

KINGSTON – A 56-year-old Napanoch man was arrested on Friday, March 20 was arrested by the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office following an hours-long standoff.

Deputies were called to a report of shots fired in the area of Sholam Road near the intersection of Woodland Avenue in Napanoch just before 11 a.m. Initial reports said the man, later identified as Lucas Robey, had left his residence and fire two rounds from a shotgun in the vicinity of nearby workers from a tree service.

Robey then went back into his home and refused to come out to speak with initial responders.

Members of the Ulster County Emergency Response Team and Ulster County Crisis Negotiation Team responded and over the next several hours, unsuccessfully attempted to make contact with Robey.

He was ultimately taken into custody and transported to HealthAlliance Hospital Broadway Campus in Kingston for further evaluation.

An “extreme risk protective order” was obtained to temporarily prohibit Robey from possessing any firearms pending a hearing.

The case remains under investigation and criminal charges are anticipated, police said.

Deputies were assisted by State Police, Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office, Ellenville Rescue Squad, Mobile Life Support Services and the Napanoch Fire Department.
