KINGSTON – An Esopus man has been arrested and charged with assaulting his mother.

State Police charged Paul Morris, 31, with assault and endangering the welfare of a disabled person, both as felonies.

He was remanded to the Ulster County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail, $20,000 partially secured bond or $10,000 secured bond.

When police responded to an Indiana Street, Esopus address for a report of a 911 hang-up call, they found Beverly Friedman, 62, with injuries to her face.

Morris, her son, said his mother suffers from extensive ailments and is on several medications which cause her to pass out. She was transported to the HealthAlliance Broadway campus in Kingston.

While at the hospital, Freidman told police her son had assaulted her inside the residence by striking her and kicking her in the ribs earlier in the evening.

She was transported from Kingston to Westchester Medical Center where she was listed in stable condition with several injuries.

A full stay-away order of protection was served on Morris.
