Governor Andrew Cuomo: "I'm not kidding"

ALBANY – Governor Andrew Cuomo, Friday, mandated that 100 percent of non-essential workers must stay at home and work. On Thursday, he allowed 25 percent of those to stay on the job, but the governor said he is pushing the ‘pause’ button on New York and wants to minimize the spread of the coronavirus.

With that in mind, he is planning to cancel all elective surgeries to free up hospital beds for those with the virus who need critical care. The state does not have enough hospital beds and the governor continues to explore creating additional hospital capacity.

The governor is also putting out the call to secure 30,000 ventilators for those who face critical care.

“I’m not kidding about this,” Cuomo said, addressing the overall issue.

He also revealed that a member of his press office demonstrated symptoms of COVID-19, therefore the office is under quarantine.
