Worker seriously injured in four-story fall

KIRYAS JOEL – A Monroe man, who was attempting to maneuver a three-inch by 20-foot PVC water pipe into a small opening on the outside of a building from an open fourth-floor window, lost his balance and fell.

The accident occurred just after 1 a.m. Monday at 18 Israel Zupnick Drive in Kiryas Joel.

State Police found Ricardo Martinez, 30, an employee of Garfield Plumbing and Heating in Kiryas Joel, unconscious with an apparent head injury.

A trooper began CPR and he was transported by KJ Ambulance to Orange Regional Medical Center in the Town of Wallkill where he was listed on Tuesday in serious condition.

Police said he not using any type of safety equipment prior to the fall.

The incident occurred in the rear of the building.
