WOODBURY – Given the fact that a large portion of the clientele at Woodbury Common Outlet Center is from overseas and the world is in the throes of coronavirus epidemic, State Senator James Skoufis (D, Woodbury) would like to see it closed for now.

Skoufis said busy malls should close for the health of the shoppers and staff alike.

“I’m calling on Governor Cuomo to require that outlet malls that attract thousands and thousands customers, including international customers, be required close,” he said. “This is for the safety of the employees; this is for the safety of the visitors who are congregating, sometimes in large numbers at very specific time and specific stores, for their safety for these outlet malls to close and for communities like Woodbury that host these malls, for their safety as well.”

Other shopping centers in the region have reduced their hours of operation.

At present, restaurants statewide may only sell food and beverages to-go and the governor has asked all businesses in the state to consider reducing their staff.
