QUINCY, MA – Stop & Shop Supermarkets are changing their store hours to accommodate customers age 60 and older beginning Thursday, March 19, 2020.

Stop & Shop President Gordon Reid issued a statement indicating that the supermarket chain will open a designated entrance for shoppers in the 60 years and older age bracket at 6:00 AM daily so those shoppers can shop until 7:30 AM without other customers in the store.  Reid said the special time allows those most vulnerable to the COVID-19 virus can shop in an atmosphere that allows for more social distancing.

Reid added that the chain has adjusted their store hours to 7:30 AM to 8:00 PM for the rest of their customers.  The president’s statement said the change will “enable our associates to spend more time unloading deliveries, stocking shelves – and to take some time for rest.”

In addition to visiting the supermarket, Stop & Shop has instituted a “contact-free” delivery service for those customers 60 years and older in addition to their normal home delivery service.  With the “contact-free” service, customers will be notified by text or email when the driver arrives.  The packages will be left on the doorstep and the driver will return to the vehicle, eliminating the need for contact between the parties.  Reid said online shoppers “may be experiencing delays on our website as well as with our delivery times.  This is again due to extremely high demand, and our teams are working incredibly hard to ensure the site is running smoothly so that you can continue to receive orders when you need them.”
