GOSHEN – Chelsea Johnson, 19, of Middletown, has been arraigned on a charge of murder in connection with the stabbing death of Roy Boyd, 17, outside Johnson’s home on January 21.

Johnson remains in the Orange County Jail in lieu of $500,000 cash bail, $1.5 million secured bond or $5 million partially secured bond.

The indictment charges Johnson with murder, manslaughter, and criminal possession of a weapon.

At the arraignment before County Court Judge William DeProspo, prosecutors argued that Boyd had accompanied Johnson’s former boyfriend to her residence on Orchard Street. It is alleged that after Johnson became involved in an argument with Boyd, she stabbed him with a kitchen knife that she had placed in her pocket when she left the house to confront her former boyfriend and Boyd.

“Obviously, every violent death is an unimaginable tragedy for the family and friends of the deceased,” said District Attorney David Hoovler. “That pain is even more pronounced when, as here, the victim is so you.”

The DA credited the Middletown City Police and State Police with investigating the case.
