ALBANY – Seven municipalities in the Hudson Valley have been certified as Climate Smart Communities by the State Department of Environmental Conservation.

In order to be certified, every community must show that it has an active climate action task force that includes municipal and citizen representatives. Many certified communities get points for installing electric vehicle charging stations and putting solar on municipal buildings.

In the Hudson Valley, bronze certifications were awarded to the City of Beacon, towns of Marbletown, New Paltz, and Saugerties, and the villages of New Paltz and Rhinebeck. The Town of Saugerties renewed its existing 2019 to increase their number of points.
