Police continue to investigate case of man who is presumed to have drowned in Hudson off Poughkeepsie

Members of the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office look for a missing swimmer on Monday afternoon in Poughkeepsie.

POUGHKEEPSIE – The body of an 18-year-old City of Poughkeepsie man who went under while in the Hudson River off the city on Monday afternoon, March 9, has yet to be discovered.

The man, whose name police did not make public, was observed by witnesses on the shore yelling for help before he went under water.

Several first responder agencies searched for the missing man from boats and from a State Police helicopter.

The circumstances surrounding why the man was in the river remain under investigation.

Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident to call them. Police are also asking anyone with video of the incident, especially before the man went into the river, to call them at 845-451-7577.
