State of emergency declared in Town of Wallkill

TOWN OF WALLKILL – Town Supervisor Frank Dendanto III, Friday, declared a state of emergency in Wallkill because of the continuing spread of COVID-19 in the area.

The order allows him to temporarily suspend or modify any local law, ordinance, order, rule, or regulation if compliance that those would prevent, hinder, or delay action necessary to cope with a disaster emergency or if necessary, to assist or aid in coping with a disaster.

As part of the declaration, Dendanto suspended the town’s procurement policies and laws to allow him to spend town money and resources in the best interest of the town in connection with the current health disaster.

The executive order will remain in effect through March 17 unless it is extended.

The order also directs department heads to “arrange, modify or limit the work schedules of their respective departments in such a manner as may be necessary to attempt to minimize the risk to town employees of the virus outbreak.”
