POUGHKEEPSIE – The Poughkeepsie city hall is closing at 3 PM on Friday to allow for the preparation of a weekend “deep cleaning” of city hall and the city court, according to Poughkeepsie City Administrator Marc Nelson.

“This is an evolving situation,” said Nelson as he prepared to close the building.  He indicated that the city has been working with officials at both the county and state levels to monitor the COVID-19 situation and the administration is taking proactive steps to avoid the spread of the virus.

Mayor Rob Rolison said he is encouraging the public to avoid all but essential trips to City Hall when it reopens on Monday. Residents can contact City officials by phone, and a list of appropriate contacts is available at https://cityofpoughkeepsie.com/contact-the-city-of-poughkeepsie and by using the various tabs at that link to find the appropriate department.

Payments for city services also can be done through the website at https://cityofpoughkeepsie.com/finance/, by mail at 62 Civic Center Plaza, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601 or by using the dropbox near the front door at the Police Station on Mansion Street.

“While we understand this will be an inconvenience for people in some instances, we believe it is a wise decision at this time,” the Mayor said. Monday’s Common Council meeting and other public meetings have been canceled for next week.

Nelson said that LCS Facility Group will be performing the cleaning.  LCS Facility Group is a multi-service company that provides cleaning services to major institutions and hospitals throughout the region.  According to Daniel Lepore, Senior vice-president of LCS, “Hospitals are required to perform extensive cleaning of their facilities not only for the obvious reasons but also to meet standards set by government agencies.  LCS has the manpower and equipment necessary to perform those important tasks.”  Lepore noted that the recent outbreak of COVID-19 has substantially increased the need for his company’s services, saying “We are booked 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for the next month as we help our clients prevent the spread of the Coronavirus and maintain a safe environment in the areas we clean.”
