POUGHKEEPSIE – City of Poughkeepsie Mayor Rob Rolison has postponed tonight’s State of the City address at the Changepoint Theatre, believing now is not the right time to bring together such a large group of people for a public gathering.

“We think it’s smart to use an abundance of caution in this instance,” Mayor Rolison said. The Mayor said he and city officials will be discussing a future date for the State of the City address and will keep the public informed as decisions are made.

Rolison told Mid-Hudson News that “The state of the city is good,” and vowed that the residents and others will have a chance to hear the presentation in the near future.  “We’re going to have it!”

The mayor’s annual address will cover several topics including the city’s first responders, economic development, and relationship with the school district.  Mayor Rolison plans to honor members of the city’s fire department that rescued occupants of a burning building in 2019 and tout several other accomplishments by the career firefighters of IAFF Local 596.

“We have a renewed economic development focus here in the City of Poughkeepsie with development and growth,” said Rolison who planned to discuss several of the new projects taking place in the city.

Poughkeepsie School District Superintendent Dr. Eric Rosser was scheduled to speak to the audience during the address to highlight the joint initiative between the district and Rolison’s administration regarding the “Children’s Cabinet” that is being instituted as well as other collaborative agreements.

The mayor also plans to address “Many of the long-standing legacy challenges in infrastructure and other things that we’d like to get done in the next four years.”  The mayor has indicated that many options exist to present his annual address including a possible live-streaming of the event, an outdoor speech at an upcoming First Friday, or a series of “on the road” events at smaller venues throughout the city.
