Witnesses say a man threatened the clerk of the store with a shotgun.

POUGHKEEPSIE – City of Poughkeepsie police responded to several calls of a man with a shotgun in the vicinity of Smith and Cottage Streets on Tuesday.

Responding officers located a man matching the description of the suspect given by the callers behind the Island Hut store at the corner of Smith and Cottage.  Scott Daniele, 35, was taken into custody without incident.  Daniele was found to be in violation of an existing order of protection which required him to surrender his firearms.  He was charged with the misdemeanor of criminal contempt for the shotgun possession, processed, and issued an appearance ticket for a future court appearance.

On Wednesday, Mid-Hudson News received a call from Melissa Brown, co-proprietor of the store.  According to Brown, Daniele had had an altercation down the street from Island Hut with an individual at which time Daniele displayed a shotgun.  The second party in the altercation disarmed Daniele and ran, with the shotgun, into Island Hut and locked the door behind him.  Brown said the man then asked the clerk who was startled, to call 911 saying that Daniele was after him.

Police recovered the shotgun inside of Island Hut.
