Sorensen named new Orange County planning commissioner

GOSHEN – Orange County Executive Steven Neuhaus has named Alan Sorensen as the county’s new planning commissioner.

When he starts his new job on March 16, he will replace David Church who has retired from the post.

Sorensen is a member of the Sullivan County Legislature and has been president of Plait Main Street Inc., since 2001. During that time, he has written plans and conducted project reviews for municipalities throughout the state. He has also developed comprehensive plans for the villages of Montgomery and Walden and the Town of Chester.

Sorensen, who will remain a member of the Sullivan County Legislature, is a former assistant commissioner for the New York State Division of Housing and Community Renewal and commissioner of the Sullivan County Planning and Community Development department.

“We are very fortunate to have someone as talented as Alan to lead our planning department,” said Neuhaus “He has the knowledge and enthusiasm to lead the planning department as it continues to move ahead on a variety of important projects.”

Sorensen’s appointment is subject to confirmation by the county legislature.
