KINGSTON – The coronavirus appears to have reared its ugly head in Ulster County as a man, who recently returned from France has received a “presumptive positive” result for the illness.
The State Health Department notified Ulster County officials on Sunday morning.
The man, a Town of Rochester resident, had traveled to France recently. He notified the county health department that he had symptoms consistent with COVID-19 and upon the guidance of the department, drove to a hospital where test samples were taken and he was placed into quarantine.
County Executive Patrick Ryan said they have been preparing for the contingency of the virus reaching the county and are “confident in our ability to respond quickly and comprehensively to ensure public health and safety.”
He has activated the county emergency operations center and deployed health department staff to focus solely on community mitigation efforts.
Staff has begun interviewing the man to assess who he may have come in contact with and notify those individuals.
