MID-HUDSON – For the first time, the grassroots group Nobody Leaves Mid-Hudson has endorsed candidates for the State Senate, all Democrats.
The organization is backing Jenn Metzger for re-election. The Democrat lawmaker will face a challenge from Republican Michael Martucci.
Democrat Karen Smythe has been endorsed in her bid to unseat Republican Sue Serino.
The organization also endorsed Democrat Michelle Hinchey, who is running against Republican Richard Amedure.
Nobody Leaves Mid-Hudson Executive Director Jonathan Bix said they carefully selected those candidates to endorse. “We endorsed the candidates that are most aligned with our values and also are the most competitive races we expect that these three candidates we endorsed – Jen, Karen and Michelle – will be in the three most competitive races,” he said.
Bix said the fact that they did not endorse anyone in the race pitting incumbent Democrat Senator James Skoufis against Republican Orange County Legislature Chairman Stephen Brescia is no negative reflection on Skoufis.
