NEWBURGH – Michael McGinn, president of the Jason Conklin Memorial Lodge 957 of the Fraternal Order of Police, has criticized the vulgar rant of Newburgh City Councilman Omari Shakur last month following a police traffic stop.

The entire city council is Democrat as are the leaders in state government.

McGinn was also critical of the response from local and state political figures. “Despite the irrefutable evidence of all we have seen on the film including the councilman blasting the rap tune ‘F the Police,’ from his vehicle, there has been little or no condemnation from our Democratic leaders, our state senators, for these despicable actions, not from the mayor, not from the city council,” he said. “There is a reason for this, and that’s because the Democrat Party in the state has been taken over by far-left city radicals that are anti-cop, they are anti-law and order, and they are anti-social norms and civilized behavior that define us as a society.”

When Shakur apologized to city residents at a city council meeting days after the video surfaced, the public and the council members generally supported Shakur saying he has done so much for the community. Some council members said he was out of line, but it should be a “learning experience.”
