WALLKILL – So, you received a recorded message purporting to be from Orange and Rockland Utilities telling you that your payment is delinquent and your service will be terminated if you don’t call them back to make arrangements.

When you call a toll-free number, you get a real-sounding message. It thanks you for calling O&R and offers prompts for services, including to pay a bill.

O&R advises customers that they don’t shut off service immediately for non-payment and does not accept bill payment for electric and gas service by Green Dot or any other prepaid debit cards.

Should you get one of those calls, just hang up and don’t believe the caller ID if it says O&R or has their phone number.

If you need further validation that the call was phony, call Orange and Rockland Utilities.
