WHITE PLAINS – Westchester District Attorney Anthony Scarpino Jr. has issued a new information card for crime victims and witnesses as a result of the recently enacted bail reform laws in the state.

As part of the bail reform package, the rules of discovery have changed and include the defendant’s right to get the names and contact information of their alleged victims and any witnesses.  Scarpino’s office developed the palm cards to make victims and witnesses aware that their information can be provided to the defendant or their attorney.

The DA said “It’s important that victims and witnesses know about the changes in New York’s discovery laws. These palm cards, which have been distributed to our local PDs, spell out the new standards for discovery.”

Dutchess County District Attorney Bill Grady said “We are currently working on a “victim information” document but it has not yet been finalized.”  Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler indicated that his office will not be publishing an informational brochure.
