PORT JERVIS – Safety improvements on the Port Jervis Line are moving forward with Positive Train Control being installed along with other advancements.

Metro-North President Cathy Rinaldi said the entire railroad system is on schedule for the safety system. “On the Port Jervis Line we are actually at the tail end of installing a new cab signally system there and that is actually associated with the upgrade to full Positive Train Control,” she said.

Rinaldi said the target for completion of the system is December 31, 2020, and she is confident they will reach that goal.

The need for Positive Train Control came as a result of the fatal Hudson Line crash at Spuyten Duyvil in the Bronx when an engineer did not slow his train down around a sharp curve resulting in a serious derailment. Four passengers were killed and 61 others injured.
