HAWTHORNE – An inmate at the Westchester County Jail in Valhalla was arrested on a manslaughter charge Tuesday in connection with a deadly assault on a fellow prisoner.

Westchester County Police charged William Johnson, 20, of Rollins Street, Yonkers, with felony manslaughter. He is accused of punching another prisoner in the head, causing that man to suffer fatal injuries when he fell to the floor and struck his head.

The incident occurred about 6:30 p.m. on January 30.  Johnson and the victim, Bryce Neville, 18, of Mount Vernon, had argued earlier in the day. Johnson is accused of punching Neville from behind as the men walked through a common area at the jail.

Bryce was taken to the Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla in critical condition following the attack. He died of his injuries on February 4.

The arrest followed an investigation by detectives from the County Police General Investigations Unit and investigators from Department of Correction Special Investigations Unit.
