MONTICELLO – “Move Sullivan,” the county’s municipal bus service begun right after the Woodstock 50th anniversary last summer, is an apparent instant success.

The service, which follows loop routes in the county’s core areas, has exceeded ridership expectation with an average of 800 riders per week, said County Manager Josh Potosek.

The county has received feedback from residents about the possibility of expanding the service, he said. “Anything from expanding the hours of existing routes to weekend, to other routes, and also feeders into existing routes,” he said. While there have been some discussions with the vendor, there have been no formal recommendations to the county legislature at this point, Potosek said.

The county’s budget includes funds to purchase two buses for the service. Initially, the county has been using buses provided by the transportation vendor.
