Senator hosts successful veterans resource fair

ELLENVILLE – Senator Jen Metzger (SD-42) held a successful veterans resource fair in Ellenville last Friday, welcoming active duty service members, veterans, and their families to the Cook Taylor American Legion Post 111. Drawing in almost 40 attendees and over 20 participating service organizations, the event marks Metzger’s fourth veterans resource fair in her Senate district in the last four months.

Partners included 22 organizations and offices that tabled at the event: Action Toward Independence, Blue Water Navy Vietnam Veterans Association, Ellenville Regional Hospital, GAIT Therapeutic Riding Center, Helmets to Hardhats, Hudson Valley Center for Veteran Reintegration, Institute for Family Health, Legal Services of the Hudson Valley, Mental Health of America’s Vet2Vet, Middletown Vet Center, New York Helmets to Hardhats (NYH2H), NYS Comptroller’s Office of Unclaimed Funds, NYS Department of Civil Services, Office of the Aging & NY Connects, Office of U.S. Congressman Antonio Delgado, SAGEVets, Samaritan Village, Soldier On, Office of Ulster County Executive Pat Ryan, Ulster County Veterans Services Agency, U.S. Census Bureau, and WestCOP Supportive Services for Veteran Families.

“My office has sponsored four veterans resource fairs at different locations in my Senate district to connect veterans and their families with the incredible array of federal, state, county, and community-based service partners working to help our veterans thrive,” said Senator Metzger. “It’s very important to me that folks also know that my office is available to connect our veteran community with information and resources to help them personally and to support their professional success.” Metzger’s constituent services team can be reached at (845) 344-3311.

Tyler Mendelson of MHA Vet2Vet called the event “A tremendous success,” adding “we take every chance we can get to help veterans with a variety of issues and this resource fair was beneficial for everyone.”

Also present at the event was Alison Chapin, a School Counselor at Ellenville Middle School who stopped in to deliver Valentine’s Day cards created by students.

Andrew Lessig, Staff Attorney at Legal Services of the Hudson Valley shared, “Legal Services of the Hudson Valley believes that those who have served their country deserve access to justice at home. We advocate for veterans and military families facing denial of benefits, eviction, foreclosure, and predatory consumer practices. We are proud to partner with Senator Metzger and other service providers in Ulster County and beyond to ensure that all veterans can access the support they need.”

Deborah A. Briggs, Vice President of Human Resources, Community Relations, Marketing and Volunteer Services at Ellenville Regional Hospital said, “Ellenville Regional Hospital is happy to participate in this great resource fair focused on our Veterans.
