SALT POINT – State Police are continuing their search for a man who escaped from custody from the Capital District Psychiatric Center in Albany 38 years ago.

Edward Nye was arrested in Canaan on January 13, 1982 for 30 counts of what was then called sodomy and now legally termed criminal sex act in the first degree.

Nye pled guilty in Columbia County Court to several sex offenses and was ordered to the psychiatric center pending sentencing.

On February 21, 1983 he escaped from the facility and has not been seen since.

A Columbia County grand jury indicted him on first-degree bail jumping and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Nye has family ties throughout upstate New York and it is believed he may have fled to Canada.

He previously worked as a youth counselor and used that position to access child victims.

Anyone with information concerning Nye’s whereabouts is asked to call the State Police Bureau of Investigation in Livingston at 518-851-2983 or State Police Troop K headquarters at 845-677-7300.
