NEW CITY – A Rockland County woman who works for the Department of Social Services has been arrested on a charge of felony grand larceny for a fraudulent claim of social services benefits.

District Attorney Thomas Walsh II said Yolanda Wiley, 37, was arrested on February 10 by detectives from the DA’s Special Investigations Unit, who had been working with investigators from the county social services department.

She was placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the case.

Wiley is accused of stealing $50,880 from social services. It is alleged that from September 23, 2016 to February 10, 2020, she falsely reported her residency, household composition, and household income to the department, and received the funds to which she was not entitled and had no permission or authority to obtain.

“It is disheartening to see a public employee violate their position to benefit themselves,” Walsh said. “This is a prime example of my special investigations unit working together with the Department of Social Services to crack down on fraudulent claims.”
