SLOATSBURG – After deadly Spuyten Duyvil and Valhalla Metro-North train crashed years ago, and more recently, a crash between a train and a truck at the Washington Avenue railroad crossing in Sloatsburg, US Senator Charles Schumer said the Metropolitan Transportation Authority is dragging its feet on technology upgrades.

The senator came to the Rockland County railroad crossing on Friday to call attention to the continuing safety issue.

“The railroad crossing in dangerous. We got $5 million to the MTA to put up preventative lights and warning signals and crossings and they are not moving the money, so we’re giving them a little kick,” he said.

In total, Schumer said there are 53 railroad crossings in New York that need safety upgrades with the funding Washington has provided.
