Senator Charles Schumer inspects the Rhinecliff Railroad Station

RHINECLIFF – Away from Washington, D.C. Friday, Senator Charles Schumer spent part of his afternoon in Dutchess County urging AMTRAK to upgrade its station in Rhinecliff between Poughkeepsie and Albany.

“This station is a gateway,” he said.

Schumer and local officials gathered outside amidst some painful wind chills to call for upgrades for one of New York State’s busiest AMTRAK stations.

“We want to make it accessible for people with disabilities, and we want to make sure it doesn’t get further deteriorated,” he said. “It’s about time it has been redone.”

The station has not been upgraded in about two decades, but Schumer said AMTRAK is aware of his concerns.

“Yes I (have),” said Schumer, when asked if he has gained the railroad’s attention.
