MONTICELLO – A 35-year-old Liberty man has been charged with misdemeanors of promoting prison contraband, criminal possession of a controlled substance and conspiracy after he was found trying to bring drugs into the Sullivan County Jail.
On February 4, deputies in the sheriff’s jail division intercepted a man attempting to enter the visiting room with a book containing 11 strips of the controlled substance Suboxone.
The suspect, Marc Metzger, was turned over to the patrol division, interviewed by detectives and admitted trying to sneak the drugs into the jail for an inmate.
Metzger was released on his own recognizance under the state’s bail reform law and is scheduled to appear in Monticello Village Court later this month.
The investigation is continuing.
