State trooper injured when police car rear-ended on Route 17

TOWN OF ROCKLAND – State Police are investigating a rear-end collision that occurred on Monday, February 10 on Route 17 westbound in the Town of Rockland in which a trooper was injured.

At about 6:15 p.m., a trooper from the Liberty barracks stopped a vehicle traveling westbound for a vehicle and traffic violation. 

The trooper spoke with the driver and returned to his car and as he was stepping out to issue the citation, he heard a radio transmission and shut the door to listen to it.

Seconds later, the police vehicle was struck in the rear and side pushing it into the stopped vehicle.

The trooper was transported to Orange Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. He was treated and released.

The person who struck the police car was not injured nor was the driver of the vehicle initially pulled over.

The crash remains under investigation.
