POUGHKEEPSIE – Dutchess County Court Judge Peter Forman was nominated by the Dutchess County Republican Committee for another term as county court judge. That backing, which was not unexpected, came Thursday night.

Forman has served as a member of the judiciary in Dutchess County for the past 20 years, beginning with his election to family court in 1999.

Since his election to county court in 2010, Judge Forman has also served as an acting supreme court justice handling civil litigation cases in addition to the felony indictments that are processed in county court.

Forman has also presided over the diversion court (a drug treatment court) since January 2016.  During the course of his tenure in county court, 23 of his opinions have been accepted for publication by the official state reporter and 95 percent have been affirmed on appeal.

He is a former president of the Dutchess County Bar Association, the Exchange Club of Southern Dutchess and the Parish Council of St. Joachim-St. John’s Church in his hometown of Beacon.

`Forman accepted the nomination, saying, “My pledge to the residents and voters in Dutchess County is that I will continue to work hard to ensure that everyone accused of a felony in my court is treated fairly and that those who are found guilty are held accountable for their crimes.”

Democrat Jessica Segal will square off against Forman in the November election.
