WHITE PLAINS – Westchester County will be adding to its clean fleet of Bee-Line buses with a $3 million allocation to purchase hybrid-electric vehicles.

Early in his administration, County Executive George Latimer announced the county’s Bee-Line Bus flee would be expanding with 78 diesel-electric 60-foot buses, 40 diesel-electric 40-foot buses, and two fully electric buses. The clean diesel-electric buses and the fully electric buses have been credited with already saving the county over one million gallons of fuel, while preventing18,400 tons of greenhouse gas emissions from polluting the environment.

“With many of our members throughout Westchester County – especially students – dependent on Beeline buses for transportation, the support for new electric buses addresses an ever-increasing need for affordable public transportation,” said Anne Jaffe Holmes, program director of Federated Conservationists of Westchester County. “The health problems and economic challenges associated with poor air quality in urban communities will be immediately and measurably alleviated with the addition of electric buses.”
