Orange County employee dies in car accident

GOSHEN – An Orange County public health technician with the county health department died in a one-car crash in the Town of Goshen on Wednesday, February 5.

The accident occurred around 9 a.m. on Route 17A near Durland Road, county officials said.

Tom Walter, 28, a Warwick resident, had worked for the county since 2017.

Orange County Sheriff’s deputies, who investigated said the county car he was driving had crashed into a tree.

Walter was taken to Orange Regional Medical Center in the Town of Wallkill where he was pronounced dead.

State Police were called to the scene to investigate the cause of the accident. No immediate cause was available.

“We are all deeply saddened by Tom’s passing and my thoughts and prayers are with his family,” said County Executive Seven Neuhaus. “Today’s tragic accident shocked our community. Tom was a valued county employee and we mourn his passing.”
