NEWBURGH – The City of Newburgh Police have arrested an 18-year-old for criminal possession of a weapon and resisting arrest stemming from an incident that occurred on February 2.
Just before 9 a.m., officers patrolling the Heights noticed a group of men on the corner of South Lander Street and Overlook. When officers approached, one of the men began walking away while holding his waistband. As the officers attempted to speak with him, the man fled on foot. The pursing officers observed him throw an item, believed to be a gun, over a fence.
The teen was apprehended by police after a short pursuit. Police Officer Layne and his Explosive Detection K-9 Dutch were able to recover a loaded .22 caliber revolver near where the officers had witnessed the suspect throw an item.
Savion Knight was charged with criminal possession of a weapon as a felony as well as a misdemeanor of resisting arrest.
Knight is currently on parole in New York for robbery and is being held on a violation of parole warrant.
