KINGSTON – “Black History Month celebrates the life, legacy, and achievements of African Americans across our country,” said Congressman Antonio Delgado (D, NY-19), who spoke at the kick-off ceremony of Black History Month at the YMCA of Kingston and Ulster County on Saturday.

“Our region has a rich history of black leaders stretching back hundreds of years – including Ulster County’s own Sojourner Truth, who I was honored to recognize during a speech on the House floor last year.”

He said the kick-off celebration “was an opportunity to highlight and celebrate the contributions of black Americans in Ulster County and across upstate New York. I encourage everyone to check out the programming, lectures, and performances held throughout our county this month.”

The Black History Month Kick-Off event at the Kingston YMCA was hosted by Harambee and Ubaka Hill.

The event included performances by a number of county organizations including The Center for Creative Education, MyKingstonKids, Pook!, and more.
