New Rochelle man sentenced for attempted bank robbery

WHITE PLAINS – A New Rochelle man, Henry Nieves, 52, was sentenced on Monday for attempted robbery of a Yonkers bank last year.

Nieves pled guilty to felony attempted robbery on December 16, 2019, and will spend 3 ½ years in state prison and five years of post-release supervision for the crime.

Westchester County Court Judge Michael Martinelli presided.

On August 22, 2019, a 12:43 p.m., Nieves walked into the Wells Fargo Bank branch on South Broadway in Yonkers, armed with a kitchen knife and demanded money of a bank employee.

He took more than $2,700 from the teller and fled.

An investigation conducted by Yonkers Police led to the arrest of Nieves a few days later after being spotted by an employee as he entered and exited the same location.
