POUGHKEEPSIE – Elementary schools in the Poughkeepsie City School District have been without copy paper since right before the winter recess and the district has provided conflicting reports as to the reason for the shortage.

When asked about the paper shortage on January 8, the district’s Public Information Officer, Irwin Goldberg, implied that the problem was likely a result of the paper being ordered right before winter recess and the holidays had somehow possibly interfered with the delivery of the paper.

On Tuesday, January 28, the elementary schools were without copy paper except for colored paper.  On Tuesday morning, one concerned parent took to Facebook to solicit donations of white copy paper for the schools.  Marie Dingle posted a request in a community forum Tuesday saying, “If anyone can help, the City of Poughkeepsie School District, especially the elementary schools need photocopy paper…clearly there is more to this that needs to be addressed but right now…the teachers and children need the community’s help.”

District Superintendent Eric Rosser responded to an inquiry about the paper delivery status on Tuesday afternoon.  “PCSD recently switched suppliers and are awaiting delivery to the two schools that are impacted (all of the other schools are supplied). To address this, these two schools are being provided with paper from Central Office, and the district has requested that the new supplier expedite the district’s order.  Community members who have contacted the school and Central Office have been thanked for their willingness to step in to support our children and staff. Our community is great.”

Rosser did not indicate when the new vendor would be delivering the paper to the affected schools.
