STEWART AIRPORT – A plan to construct a solar port on a portion of the main parking lot in front of the passenger terminal at New York Stewart International Airport has been delayed as the chosen developer, Forefront Power of California has withdrawn its proposal.

Airport Director Ed Harrison told the Stewart Airport Commission on Tuesday that alternate plans are under consideration. “They just backed out of the deal, they said it wasn’t economical for them, so we will go through a process that might look at the second bidder and we are working with the New York Power Authority, fast-tracking the process to find another developer for that,” he said.

As planned, the solar port would provide enough electricity to power the entire passenger terminal.
