Unemployment up in all Hudson Valley counties

ALBANY – December 2019 unemployment is up over the same month in 2018, according to state labor department figures released on Tuesday.

Region-wide, December unemployment is 3.7 percent, up from 3.4 percent in November and up from 3.5 percent in December 2018.

The lowest rate of joblessness in December 2019 was in Columbia County, at 3.2 percent, up from 3.0 percent in December 2018.

Rockland County, a 3.5 percent was second lowest in December, up from 3.3 percent one year earlier.

Dutchess County recorded 3.6 percent joblessness, compared with 3.2 percent in December 2018.

Ulster County followed with 3.7 percent unemployment, up from 3.6 percent in December 2018.

Putnam and Westchester counties each had 3.8 percent rates of joblessness in December 2019. Putnam rose from 3.4 percent and Westchester grew from 3.5 percent in December 2018.

Orange County had 3.9 percent unemployment in December 2019, compared with 3.5 percent one year earlier.

Sullivan County recorded 4.3 percent joblessness in December 2019, compared with 3.9 percent one year earlier.

Greene County had 4.7 percent joblessness, up from 4.3 percent one year earlier.

State-wide, the unemployment rate is 3.7 percent in December 2019, compared with 3.9 percent in the same month in 2018.
