Three-car crash in Town of Poughkeepsie sends cop and other driver to hospital

POUGHKEEPSIE – A three-car crash on South Road in the area of the Mobil gas station next to the Hudson Plaza send a town police officer and the driver of another vehicle to the hospital. Both sustained head injuries.

Poughkeepsie Town Police said that at about 10:24 p.m. on Saturday, January 25, a 2010 Toyota operated by a 42-year-old Glendale, Arizona man was traveling north and attempted to make an illegal U-turn south and was struck by a Town of Poughkeepsie Police vehicle traveling southbound.

After the initial collision, the police vehicle traveled across the northbound lanes of South Road and struck a parked vehicle in the Wendy’s parking lot.

The driver of the Toyota and the police officer both sustained head injuries and were taken to a local hospital.

All three vehicles had to be towed from the scene. Two lanes on South Road were closed in both directions for some four hours while the accident was investigated.

Town police were assisted at the scene by the Arlington Fire Department and Mobile Life Support Services.

The investigation is continuing and town police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash to call the Traffic Enforcement Unit at 845-485-3680.
