CORNWALL – Adding to its outpatient care, which includes pain management, sleep medicine, dialysis and oncology services, Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall announced Monday it was getting $11.9 million in state funding for an Open Access Primary Care Center on the Cornwall campus.

“The community has gone through a lot with this campus over the years, and it hasn’t always been positive,” said state Sen. James Skoufis, of the 39th state senatorial district.

The center will located in a former emergency room facing Route 9W, and it will allow patients to get the immediate care they are seeking. The state funding will also allow the hospital to expand its blood bank, specialized labs, imaging services and physician office space.

“People can just walk in without an appointment, and get the care that they need,” said Skoufis. “This campus will be transformed into a thriving facility, which hasn’t been seen in many, many years or even decades.”

When the hospital shut down the inpatient services at Cornwall because of budgetary concerns, Skoufis led the charge lobbying to keep it open.
