KINGSTON – The Hudson River Maritime Museum’s (HRMM) YouthBoat is a free program, designed to empower youth, build character, and foster teamwork through the traditional craft of wooden boatbuilding and on-the-water activities. YouthBoat is an afterschool program for teenagers, ages 14-18. It is held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 3 -5 p.m., starting on February 20, 2020, and ending on May 28, 2020.

Students from diverse backgrounds work alongside skilled shipwrights and carpenters at the HRMM’s Wooden Boat School. Through the process of building boats, students put science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) skills to work following building plans, using specialized tools and equipment, and solving problems.

Interested students need to submit an application (including a letter of recommendation from a teacher, non-relative mentor or employer) by February 18, 2020. To obtain an application go to www.hrmm.org/youthboat,  and for more information please email jphelan@hrmm.org or call John Phelan at 845-514-2951.

YouthBoat is supported by donations, if you are interested in supporting or sponsoring our YouthBoat initiative, please visit hrmm.org/support, or contact us at donate@hrmm.org.
