HUDSON – With more than 40 rescued farm animals in their care, the owners of Chatham Animal Haven (CAH) have their hands and barns full. So much so that they are hunting for a new, larger property and, not coincidentally, trying to raise funds for that purpose.
Enter 25 regional artists and at least one from overseas with hearts of gold. The individuals, solicited by CAH co-founder Colleen Carpenter-Rice, have agreed to “adopt” a letter and create an original piece of art that will subsequently be auctioned off on behalf of the benefit.
“Animals A-Z”, an art show and auction, will be on display in the Kaaterskill Gallery in the main building at Columbia-Greene Community College from Wednesday, February 5th, through the 28th. An opening reception takes place Tuesday evening, February 4th, from 5pm – 7pm. (Snow date – Feb. 11th). Online bidding starts on February 5th at www.biddingowl.com/ChathamAnimalHavenInc .
Chatham Animal Haven was formed in 2014 and is dedicated to rescue and care for abused, neglected and surrendered farm animals. They provide safe shelter, food, and veterinary care so that the residents can live out their lives in a peaceful and loving environment. A non-profit eager to continue their mission, The Haven currently houses both mini-pigs and the full-sized variety as well as a flock of chickens and several goats. “The minute I was approached by Colleen, I knew I’d say yes,” said Kim Bach, an artist and creator of “Q”, an oil stick rendition of a Quail. The owner of Verdigris Tea, who has received a Yaddo Fellowship Grant and has works in the M.H. de Young Memorial Museum in San Francisco, was happy to contribute. “How could I not help make life easier for those animals? It’s great that a place like Chatham Animal Haven exists.”
